Maynooth Economists Determine the Optimal Handicapping System for Ten-Pin Bowling

Researchers at NUI Maynooth have determined the optimal handicap system needed to create a level playing field in the sport of ten-pin bowling. Many sports operate a handicap system in which scores are adjusted in an attempt to equalize the probability of victory in contests between players of different ability levels. This increased competition aids development and promotion of the sport. However, there has been a growing concern that the current systems used in bowling do not achieve the stated aims, with the same teams and players filling the top positions in the league every year.

The annual NUIM Accountancy Showcase took place on Wednesday October 3rd 2012 in NUI Maynooth in the  Iontas Building, NUIM. All the leading professional firms including PWC, E&Y,KPMG and Deloitte attended as well as the Irish Accounting & Taxation Institutes and Glanbia, IFS and Intel.

Aedín Doris paper at Irish Economy Conference

On 27th January, Aedín Doris presented a Paper at the Irish Economy Conference, Croke Park.

Annual NUIM Accountancy Showcase a success

The annual NUIM Accountancy Showcase took place on Tuesday October 4th 2011 in the Iontas Building, NUI Maynooth. There were eighteen stands at the event.  Professional firms including  PWC, E&Y, KPMG & Deloitte , the Irish Accounting & Taxation Institutes and companies P&G, IFS and Glanbia were in attendance.

This was a tremendous opportunity for the students to learn more about a career in Accountancy whilst also showcasing NUIM students to the Accounting profession.

In the next few weeks alumni from the Department of Economics, Finance & Accounting will return to campus to give their insights on work and life after college, how to get a job, and how to build a career. 

All talks will be at 7:00 in the Computer Science Lecture Theatre 2.  All are welcome.
