NUIM Economics Student Committee (ESC)
The NUIM ESC was set up by students in NUI Maynooth. We wanted to find a way to break through the graphs, equations and formulae in order to show students the pivotal role Economics plays in their lives. Whether it be the Eurozone crisis, the government’s economic policy, or simply the price of Milk, Economists play an extremely important role in the decision making process. Through various methods such as talks, discussions and debates, we hope to show the real world applications of the subject, and help those who are struggling along with the topics that may be difficult to grasp.
We have so far held two talks. Dan O'Brien, the economics editor for the Irish Times came to talk to us about the Irish Media focus on Economics in the Media on the 3rd of April. Alan Duke, former minister for Finance then came to talk to us on the 4th of April on "What ruined Ireland...again?", a detailed discussion on the Eurozone crisis and the fiscal compact.
We also have David McWilliams coming to talk to us on "Where we have been, and where we might be going". He will be talking to us on the 24th of April.
Members of the Committee are:
