This is a one year full-time programme designed for honours graduates who have taken major accounting specialisations in their undergraduate studies, sufficient to qualify them for exemptions from CAP1 of the examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, and who wish to pursue a professional accounting qualification.
Graduates who successfully achieve the required grades on this programme will be entitled to full CAP2 exemptions from Chartered Accountants Ireland and equivalent exemptions from other professional accounting bodies.
Entry Requirements
Applicants will normally be expected to have achieved a 2.I result or better in the BA Finance and Accounting programme at NUI Maynooth or an equivalent degree programme and full CAP 1 exemptions.
Course Structure
The aim of this programme is to provide students with the key competencies required by a professional accountant in an ever-changing business and ethical environment. Students will be encouraged to develop critical and analytical skills and apply their knowledge to unstructured situations.
All Modules are compulsory. AC601, AC603, AC605 and AC607 All 10 Credits, FN609 5 Credits, AC699 15 Credits.
Applicants are required to have a full CAP1 of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.

Career Options
Graduates of the MA in Accounting will have exemption from the penultimate examination (CAP2) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland. Prospective employers will have access to a group of high achievers with CAP2 exemptions (thus minimising future study leave requirements) who have been intellectually challenged by the depth of the programme.
